Ceilings that absorb noise within the building are often found in schools, hospitals, libraries, etc and typically utilise glasswool insulation with a black matt facing above perforated plaster/metal/timber or strip/slattered ceilings. Insulating above ceilings may be required to reduce noise from entering into the rooms below. Often this is required in multi-storey apartments or hotels to reduce noise from waste water pipes and the room above, and buildings under a flight path or other external noise sources.
