acoustic insulation

Insulco manufacture and market a large range of acoustic insulation products to suit all types of standard and specialised applications. Insulco also have the knowledge and tools to assist in choosing the correct acoustic insulation for almost any application for partition walls and ceilings.

partition walls

There are many reasons to provide acoustic treatment to partition walls within commercial buildings, however, most come down to acoustic privacy. Everyone can relate to that dodgy motel where you can hear everything from the next room so care is now taken to ensure buildings receive the acoustic treatment they deserve.

Such is the requirement for acoustic privacy, many wall systems in multi-residential developments now have minimum acoustic performances stipulated in the Building Code of Australia (BCA).

Insulco manufacture and market a range of glasswool and polyester insulation products that have been specifically designed for commercial partition wall systems. The table below provides recommended insulation products for use in different stud wall systems.

* It is always advisable to fill the cavity with insulation where possible, this helps to maximise the acoustic performance by preventing gaps and not allowing the insulation to slump in the cavity.

If you are unsure about the acoustic predictions for your insulation choices, you can simply use the specially developed Insulco Acousti-Max software program. Acousti-Max provides accurate predictions for almost any wall system with or without insulation, with printouts that can be used for reference purposes. This program is available for purchase from your local Insulco branch.

ceilings

There are two reasons that Acoustic Insulation may be required in a ceiling:

  1. To absorb noise created within the building, or
  2. Reduce noise that enters or leaves the building.

Ceilings that absorb noise within the building are often found in schools, hospitals, libraries, etc and typically utilise glasswool insulation with a black matt facing above perforated plaster/metal/timber or strip/slattered ceilings.

Insulating above ceilings may be required to reduce noise from entering into the rooms below. Often this is required in multi-storey apartments or hotels to reduce noise from waste water pipes and the room above, and buildings under a flight path or other external noise sources.
